Treatment procedure

Your safety is Muggenthaler Ästhetik’s top priority. To ensure this, we carry out a test treatment before the actual laser epilation. This is carried out at least 48 hours before the treatment.

Before laser epilation

We recommend that you do not wax or pluck the areas to be treated for at least 2 weeks before laser hair removal, but only shave them. The body area should be shaved again 1 day before the treatment.

The treatment

The laser handpiece is now moved over the area to be treated at a certain distance. It emits a series of laser pulses. Venus VelocityTM emits light at a wavelength of 800 nm, which is strongly absorbed by melanin. Melanin is present in the hair shaft and serves as a target (i.e. chromophore) in hair removal treatments. High absorption by melanin ensures a selective and effective hair removal treatment. Most patients experience a slight stinging or burning sensation during the laser treatment. After the first few impulses, however, the treatment becomes more and more pleasant.
After the treatment

Within 15 to 30 minutes after the treatment, the skin is slightly to strongly reddened. However, this redness will subside after about 2 hours, or after a day at the latest. For maximum comfort, the body region is treated with cold packs and a cooling cream immediately after the treatment. Within one week after laser epilation, sun or solarium must be avoided completely.

Frequently asked questions about laser treatment

What do I need to consider before laser epilation?

To achieve optimum results, you should consider the following before treatment:

  • At least 2 weeks before the treatment appointment, the hair in the area to be treated should no longer be epilated, waxed or plucked. Depilatory creams should also be avoided.
  • The treatment area should be shaved one day before treatment
  • For facial hair removal, make-up must be removed and the skin thoroughly cleansed before treatment.

Which areas of the body can be treated with the Venus Velocity?

Permanent hair removal with the Venus VelocityTM can be used on all areas of the body. For legs, arms, back, chest, buttocks, intimate areas and of course for the face.

How many treatments are necessary for permanent hair removal?

Several sessions are required for permanent hair removal – the hair must be in the anagen phase (growth phase) for effective hair removal. As a rule, 4-6 treatments are required per treatment area. The number of treatments depends on the area being treated. The sessions take place at intervals of 4-8 weeks.

Why are several treatments necessary?

There are three different phases a hair can be in, the anagen phase (growth phase), catagen phase (transition phase) and telogen phase (resting phase). The Venus Velocity™ diode laser can be used to destroy hair in the anagen phase by absorbing the laser energy in the hair follicle, and we need several sessions as only 30% of the hair is in the anagen phase and the growth cycle changes every 4-8 weeks.

Is the laser treatment painful?

The light pulses are usually felt by patients as a slight stinging or burning sensation, although this becomes more tolerable after the first few pulses.

How long does the treatment take?

The duration of a session depends on the size of the area to be treated. A treatment on the face (e.g. upper lip) takes approx. 10-15 minutes, while hair removal on the legs takes approx. 1 hour.

What do I need to consider after laser hair removal?

In the first week after laser epilation, sun and solarium must be avoided.
