Safe and effective phenol peels: the essence of 25 years of practical experience

Phenol Peeling FAchartikel

After more than 25 years of intensive practical experience, I had the opportunity to publish my findings on phenol peels in a specialist article entitled ‘Safe and effective phenol peels – the essence of 25 years of practical experience’ in the journal Kosmetische Medizin & Ästhetische Chirurgie (Cosmetic Medicine & Aesthetic Surgery). The article is primarily aimed at fellow doctors. At the same time, it is important to me to give interested patients an insight into why phenol peels are still one of the most effective procedures in aesthetic medicine today and what is really important for safe application.

Why phenol peeling is a special treatment

Phenol peeling is not a ‘classic cosmetic peel’, but a deeply effective medical procedure that is used specifically for the following indications:

  • pronounced light-induced skin damage
  • deep wrinkles
  • advanced skin ageing (elastosis)

In my many years of surgical and aesthetic practice, one thing has become clear time and again: no other peel and no other laser treatment – even with the most advanced CO₂ lasers – achieves comparable results in terms of depth and sustainability.

Experience and safety are paramount when it comes to phenol peels

Precisely because phenol peels are so effective, they require the utmost medical care. In my specialist article, I explain in detail that the success of the treatment depends largely on the careful selection of suitable patients, structured and standardised preparation, and controlled, zone-based application. Continuous monitoring during treatment and close follow-up care by a specialist are equally crucial to ensure safety and optimal results.

Only when all these factors are met can the full potential of phenol peels be exploited safely and responsibly.

Who is phenol peeling suitable for?

Particularly good results are seen in patients with:

  • fair skin type
  • rather thick, firm or ‘oily’ skin
  • severe photoaging

Other skin types, such as very dark, extremely thin or dry skin, require particularly careful consideration or alternative treatment methods. It is precisely this differentiated approach that is a central part of my daily work.

My goal: maximum effect with maximum safety

The conclusion of my specialist article can be clearly summarised: phenol peeling is an indispensable tool in modern aesthetic medicine – but only in experienced hands. The aim is not only visible skin optimisation, but also a medically responsible approach that combines safety, naturalness and long-term results.
